The Voyageurs had their chances against a tough opponent. They just couldn’t cash in.

“We had some receivers drop some footballs that would’ve changed the complexion of the game,” said Coach Larry Godziuk.

“There’s 14 points at the goal line left on the field, along with a fumbled snap. That’s 21 points right there. Would’ve been a been different final score or last couple minutes had we capitalized on those opportunities.”

The Holy Rosary Raiders defeated Bonnyville 27-10 on Friday at Walsh Field. That puts the Voyageurs losing streak at three games and solidifies their playoff seeding in fourth.

Heading into the game there was an outside chance the Voyageurs could host the St. Paul Lions in the first round, but that opportunity disappeared.

“We just didn’t come out to the level of physicality that they brought to us. We prepped all week, we had a really good idea of what was going to happen, and we just weren’t prepared on the field to handle it,” he said.

“Our defense spent a lot of time on the field, and we just didn’t have a chance offensively to build any rhythm and bring ourselves back into the game.”

Injured quarterback Silas Fagnan returned to action after nursing a broken arm, and played well despite howling winds in coach’s eyes.

“He looked awesome. He threw some really well-thrown balls. I think he had only pass that he threw into the ground that was a poor pass.”

The Bonnyville Bandits beat the Wainwright Warhawks 56-8 this weekend. Next, the Bandits play the Lloydminster Jr. A Red Dogs Saturday afternoon in Lloydminster.

The Voyageurs will now have to play the 6-0 Lloydminster Comp. Barons at Armstrong Field Friday.

The Cold Lake Royals dropped their final regular season game 40-12 against those Lloydminster Comp. Barons.

They will host the Westlock Thunderbirds next week.
