Stantec Consulting Ltd. presented four design concepts for a possible new entry feature for Downtown Cold Lake at the June 19, 2018 City of Cold Lake Corporate Priorities Committee Meeting.
Of the four designs, Council liked a blend of the first and fourth design because of the size and boldness of the signage and the space for recognition plaques where people can sit and read about the history of the area.
City of Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland said a new downtown entry has been on Council’s radar for three to four years. The project was initiated in 2015-16 but work was put on hold for a while due to Highway 28 work.
At the meeting, Council debated whether the sign should say Grand Centre or Old Grand Centre and they talked about how and if the signage could incorporate an image that represents a creamery because as City of Cold Lake City Councillor, Vicky Lefebvre, stated, “That’s what started Grand Centre; the creamery.”
Council gave their feedback to City Administration, who will take it to the architect, Stantec who will then come back with a concept for Council to decide on.
