EMS Week in the Lakeland Region

It was EMS Week in the Lakeland region last week, and both Bonnyville and Cold Lake held open houses to engage with youngsters no what EMS is about, and in Cold Lake’s case, to raise money for equipment.

The barbecue for the Cold Lake Ambulance Society was particularly meaningful said director, TJ Thompkins, who is currently wrapping up his first full year in the position.

“The barbecue is for us to raise money for our digital ventilator, as well as temporal thermometers. We’re looking to raise 4-6 thousand dollars,” said Thomkins.

“The government helps us out to the point. This is all the extra stuff, all the goodies, for the latest and greatest technology. And we want to make sure that our staff has got all that stuff to make it better for our clients – which is everyone.”

As well as the push for equipment, there were ambulance tours for the kids, face tattoos, face-painting, cotton candy, snowcones, and lots of potential prizes to be won. You could even bring in your wounded teddy bear to the teddy bear clinic, and check your blood pressure too.

The Cold Lake Ambulance Society has two ambulances and one flex car, which means two run for 24 hours a day and the flex fills in when needed.

They have 50 employees, are will hold their AGM on June 21 at the Grande Parlour.
