A member of the St. Paul RCMP ended up in a ditch full of high water after a police chase took him off-road.

Just outside of St. Edouard, RCMP were attempting to stop a vehicle suspected to be involved in two robberies that occurred in Bonnyville on April 27th.

While attempting to stop the vehicle, eye witnesses say RCMP were able to direct the suspect vehicle off the road, where the truck got stuck in a similar situation; a ditch full of water on the opposite side.

The police vehicle was unable to make a quick stop and continued into the ditch, which was full of water due to spring melts.

The Bonnyville RCMP was able to establish that both robberies were committed by the same individual.  After a short pursuit near St-Paul, Shyan COON, 22 years old, was apprehended in a stolen truck and is facing 18 charges; including:

  • Robbery
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Wearing disguise in the commission of an indictable offence
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Flight
  • Dangerous driving
  • Resisting arrest
  • Fail to comply with conditions

Coon remains in police custody and will appear on May 1st 2018 at the Bonnyville Provincial Court.
