A Cold Lake woman faces a number of charges after causing an accident on Highway 28, within the City of Cold Lake. Police say the 34 year old female was a catalyst to a three vehicle collision on March 30th, where the vehicle the woman was driving rear-ended another vehicle, causing that vehicle to smash into the third vehicle.

RCMP said when they arrived on scene, shortly after 2:30 pm, the female displayed visible signs of impairment and there were two 13 year olds in her vehicle.

The woman was taken back to Cold Lake RCMP Detachment where a breathalizer was administered. She is said to have blown four times the legal limit. Staff Sargaent, Jeremie Landry, described the female as “grossly intoxicated”.

Child & Family Services apprehended the children and placed them with family, confirms S/Sgt. Landry.

The woman has charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.08 and two counts of want & reckless regard for life for allegedly committing criminal negligence when driving impaired with the children in the vehicle.

There were no injuries as a result of the accident.

The female has been released and will appear in court on April 25th at 10:00 am.
