Meet the Alberta Party Leader Candidates

On Wednesday, the three leadership candidates for the Alberta Party will be in Bonnyville to meet with area residents. They will be discussing the party’s interests and the party’s, as well as their own platforms. Candidates include Rick Fraser, Kara Levis and Stephen Mandal.

President of the Alberta Party for the Bonnyville-Cold Lake Constituency, Rob Fox says the party is different, “we’re a centralist party. The vast majority of Albertans, the numbers say 67 percent, fall into the centralist area. Neither right, neither left. We are not tied to any Federal party, we believe there are good ideas from both sides.” Some may remember Fox from the last election where he ran for MLA (Bonnyville-Cold Lake) under the Alberta Party.

The stop in Bonnyville will be the only “rural” event that the leadership candidate will be attending before the leadership election, says Fox. “This is a strong, economic riding. It also has four First Nations and two Métis Settlements within the boundaries. All three leaders want everyone included and contributing.

“We believe in positive, science-based decisions,” it’s about what’s best for the people, says Fox, “decisions based on fact, not idealogoy.” He encourages anyone who believes there’s a better way to run the province to attend the information night. “Come and have a listen.”

The public will get the opportunity to meet the three leader candidates. Rick Fraser is a MLA for Calgary South-East. Fraser ran as an independent and recently joined the party. Kara Levis is a lawyer, in the energy industry, from Calgary. Stephen Mandal is the former mayor of Edmonton, where he served the city for three terms, after sitting on council for three years.

The public will have the opportunity to hear from the candidates Wednesday at the French Cultural building (4904 50 St) at 7:00 pm.
