Have you ever dreamed of opening your own tourism business? A bed and breakfast, fishing guide of Cold Lake, a camp out with the northern lights? If so, the Rural Alberta Business Centre (RABC) has a great workshop for you! Kathryn Hotte, small business advisor with the RABC, says on Wednesday entrepreneurs and business owners are invited to the free workshop.

“It helps start-up tourism businesses understand seasonal demand, finances, and marketing to get started,” Hotte says the workshop will give new and potential tourism businesses thee right tools and help advance existing businesses, “I don’t want people to think it’s just for start-ups. It’s going to help them innovate, expand and refresh their operations. Give them a greater focus with some of the key issues that are unique to tourism.”

The workshop will talk on the tourism industry, who is your target clients and market segmentation. Mayor, of Cold Lake, Craig Copeland will attending and speaking with attendees. One of the keynote speaker Craig Konechny, owner of Bean Trees Cafe, will discuss his business and how he transformed a coffee shop into a destination and in doing so discovered a need for an expansion of the arts in Cold Lake. Along with the other keynote speaker, Teresa Pettit, the Grande Parlour was conceived. The pair will discuss how the theatre came to life and the obstacles, as well as the opportunities that came with the creation of the facility.

An important element of the workshop is how to deliver, says Hotte, “training employees, business planning and financing.” There will be break-out meetings with local experts from Tourism Alberta. Anyone in the field of tourism is welcome to attend. RSVP is required by registering online: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/tourism-entrepreneurship-startup-seminar-tess-2018-tickets-40717910366
