A Symphony at Sunset; 21st Annual Bonnyville Health Foundation Gala

For 21 years, the Bonnyville Health Foundation has been hosting a gala to raise funds vital to maintaining a high-quality of care at the Bonnyville Hospital. Over the years, more than $2 million dollars has been raised, with money going to by various equipment for multiple departments in the hospital. This year, the money raised from the Symphony at Sunset themed gala will go to the orthopedic ward.

Organizer Vic Sadlowski says the hospital directs the Health Foundation on where the money will be used, “the doctors meet and other high staff members and they decide where the money goes. This year it will go to the orthopedic ward to purchase new drills and saws. It sounds a bit odd, but very needed for that ward.” Any surplus funds, after that will be allocated to the ward. The goals are to be able to purchase the drill ($38,000), saw ($36,000) and some additional equipment valued at $4,500. In past years, the Health Foundation has raised money for the cancer wards, palliative care wards and obstetrics.

The gala makes for a fantastic evening, while raising money for the cause. “It’s always a really neat night, in terms of the dancing and dinner,” Sadlowski says that along with the atmosphere and entertainment, it’s all about the cause, “can you find me a better, more universal charity? Whether we want to admit it or not, we will all end up needing the services of our medical community; locally.”

There are some great silent and live auction items; including a trip to Seattle for a series of Toronto Blue Jays’ games. There is also a trips to Chicago, Disneyland, Nashville, and west-coast fishing trip. There are also live raffles; including a trip for two to Germany.

The event is Saturday, February 17th at the Centennial Centre. The gala traditionally sells out, so don’t miss out on getting your tickets.
