“We’re excited and a fresh start for us. We didn’t end the regular season the way we wanted to and it’s time to hit the reset button,” Assistant Coach of the Bonnyville Sr. AA Pontiacs, Corey Wandler says post-season is the time for the team to come together. “We’re going to come with everything’s we’ve got. That’s why we lace up and come to the rink, for playoff hockey.”

The Devon Barons opened up the scoring five minutes into the game, from  Ryan Kallis. The power play goal came off the power play while  Tanner Corbeil was sitting it out for charging. Corbeil made good on the penalty goal, by putting in the tier from Dillon Kalinski and Beau Ferbey. It was a 1-1 game after 20 minutes.

The second period started out much like the first, but this time the Barons put in two goals, one on the power play and one as a result of the power play. Only seconds apart at the six minute mark, it was now a 3-1 game.  Devon Kalinski turned things around for the club, closing the gap with help from Nicholas Scott and it was Lucas Isley who tied it up with help from Nicholas Scott and Craig Wowk. Once again a tied game.

The team kept it tight and clean in the third, no penalities it was a fast 20 minutes with only one goal. Thankfully for the home crowd that goal came from Tanner Corbeil, with helpers from Lucas Isley and Beau Ferbey. The Seniors held strong and finished out the game 4-3 to give them a 1-0 record in their first playoff series.

The Pontiacs welcome Devon for Game 2 on Saturday at 3:45 pm. You can catch exclusive player and coach interviews on Lakeland Connect’s Facebook Page, thanks to Rapid Response Energy Services, Thinkwerx and Double R Heavy Duty.
