Northern Lights Public Schools is pleased to announce that Samear Abougouche has been appointed Principal of Vera M. Welsh Elementary School.

“Sam’s focus on relationship building and his strong connections in the community will further enhance the learning opportunities available to students at Vera M. Welsh Elementary,” said Superintendent Rick Cusson.

The transition between Abougouche and current Principal Dana Robb, who is retiring after serving almost 40 years with the school division, will begin this week.

Abougouche has extensive experience in school administration, having served as an Assistant Principal and Principal in the Division since 1999. As a Northern Lights alumnus, who graduated from J.A. Williams High School, Abougouche has deep roots in the community of Lac La Biche.

“I look forward to working with students, parents and staff to ensure that Vera M. Welsh provides everyone with a great experience every time they walk through our doors,” Abougouche said. “It is exciting to be joining a great team of remarkably dedicated professionals who work hard to ensure our students grow academically, socially and emotionally every day.”
