The Cold Lake RCMP has conducted 12 checkstops during the month of December. Constable Alexandra Thibeault reports there has been three impaired drivers, and one person who had received a 24 hour suspension during the campaign.

There was also a number of traffic violations tickets, such as open liquor in their vehicle. Cst. Thibeault reminds the public that when transporting liquor in a vehicle it cannot be within reach of any occupant of the vehicle. “We’ve been working a lot to [stop] impaired drivers and make sure people go home safe.”

The public is reminded of the Operation Red Nose program in Cold Lake. The program is free and runs every weekend in December, including New Year’s Eve. The service will drive you and your vehicle home safe. You can call or text 780-812-5880 to use the program. They also accommodate group events, but as to call a few days ahead of time to give them notice.
