Voyageurs celebrate season
The Bonnyville High School Football Voyageurs celebrated the end of their season with a banquet on Wednesday evening at St. Louis Parish Hall. The event was filled with stories from the grind of individual accomplishments and team bonding. Head Coach, Larry Godzuik says overall the year was a success.
This year we grew leaps and bounds. – Larry Godzuik Head Coach Bonnyville Voyageurs.
In speaking to the players, Coach Godzuik noted that the lost out only to the teams that went on the represent the Wheatland Football League in Provincials, “we had quite a good run. There’s no shame in losing to teams of that calibre. We need to hold ourselves up to that level of competition”. Continuing to constantly improve and work on the little things will get the club to that level, says Godzuik, “continue to be a team, work together as a team and we’ll get there too”.
“While parenting is the most important job, coaching is the most difficult,” Godzuik laughs as he reflects on the season, “making sure each and everyone’s needs are met; parents are happy and players are happy. I think we’re getting better at that.”
The team said goodbye to seven graduating players, and the team manager of sorts; Myriam Godzuik. “Next year we have the potential of having a roster of 53 players. Managing expectations is something that we continue to work on.”
