Elks look forward to home game

The Elk Point Elks are returning home after a road game last weekend versus the Paradise Hill Hawks. The team was able to take it to overtime, but fell short 5-4. Coach Murray Cochrane says the club is excited to return home to meet Two Hills on Friday.

Teams in senior men hockey leagues can find it tough to find enough players to go on the road trips, the Elks are no different. “We had an extremely short bench. There was 13, then JOHN SCHMITT got hurt and we basically played two lines the rest of the game,” explains Cochrane. When it comes to home games, it can be easier to find the players to complete the team, “we have a pretty impressive team when we’re all there.”

In the match against Paradise Hill, the Hawks opened the first with two goals ( MICHALE COLLIOU and TED CREECH) to take the lead. The celly was short-lived with responses from LEE LETESTU (assist JASON KALYNCHUK) and  DARIEN CARDINAL (assists HENRY CARDINAL , JASON KALYNCHUK) to end the period with two goals a piece.

The home team took the lead again in the second with the sole goal going to  RILEY MACNAB. The third was much the same to start with, the Hawks gained a two goal advantage, thanks to  TREY KOBERLIN. The Elks responded just in time to close the period with a tie; goals for  MYLES WHITFORD &  MATTHEW BOULIANNE. Forcing extra time with a 4-4 game.

With 12 seconds left in overtime TREVOR KRETZER, of the Hawks put in the game winner.

Friday the Elk Point Elks host the Two Hills Longhorns, it’ll be the first time the clubs have met this year. The evening is a great opportunity to explore the town prior to the game with the annual Christmas Extravganza taking over downtown Elk Point. Shopping and sales galore with a puck drop at 8:30 pm at the AG Ross Arena.
