Big weekend

In a week that saw all the action take place on Saturday, Bonnyville football fans went home happy. The Bandits, and Voyageurs played in big games while the Renegades had the week off. Both Bonnyville teams won their games this weekend. This is your BMFA Post-Weekend Report presented by Fountain Tire Bonnyville and Rockslide Gravel!

Bandits battle Bengals

The Bandits took to Walsh Field trying to defend their perfect record against the Bengals. The game went back and forth the entire way, with five lead changes. Turnovers were a huge part of the game, as both teams turned the ball over deep into a drive. Bonnyville fumbled the ball three times in the first half.

“They have good athletes on the outside, for their sweeps. That’s their strong game. They’re running a strong game today.” Defensive Tackle Logan Church said at half time.

Both teams were looking for that back-to-back score to seize momentum. Neither team would get it. The game came down to the final two minutes where the Bandits defense stood tall against a pressing Bengals squad. The Bandits won the game 19-14.

“There’s a lot of kids who didn’t get to play because we wanted home field advantage going forward. But pull together like I’ve never seen it. We’re getting tighter and tighter, and they’re playing for one another… We don’t have too many highs and too many lows.” Head Coach Mickey Fagnan says.

Voyageurs take out Wainwright

The Bonnyville Voyageurs had a favourable match-up headed into their Saturday game against the Wainwright Commandos. The Voyageurs didn’t take long to get warmed up, fired up, and then up on the board. Bonnyville led 38-7 at half-time. The Voyageurs dominated the most of the game. The backups got a chance to play for a good chunk of the game. The final score for the Voyaguers was 49-14.

“It’s continuing to develop. The field has been an addition. It has certainly helped us. Right now, if we had a grass field we would be slipping, and sliding around. It’s not rock hard, but it’s consistent. The playing surface today was almost the same as it was in September.” Head Coach Larry Godziuk said post-game.

Upcoming games

The Voyageurs will play Holy Rosary this week. The Bandits will have a week off, before facing a team to be determined later this week.
