Rudy Cardinal, of Elizabeth Métis Settlement, has been sentenced with six months jail time as a result of a plea bargain with the Crown Prosecutor. Cardinal was sentenced under the charges of possession of property obtained by crime, over $5,000 and breach of probation. RCMP say Cardinal is a regular offender and known to the police.

The sentence stems from a case involving the Cold Lake RCMP. While on routine patrol, in a RCMP ATV, officers discovered Cardinal behind the steering wheel of a stolen vehicle.

Cardinal is said to be known to police with more files against him. In April 2017, Cardinal was arrested with three other men in relation to the Cold Lake RCMP discovering stolen vehicles on a property on Cold Lake First Nations. Cardinal was said to have fled the scene, however police quickly found him. The 18 year old was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00, two charges of failing to comply with a probation order and obstructing a police officer.
