Ed Duchesne wants to represent you on MD Council for Ward 4

Ed Duchesne wants to represent you on Council for the Municipal District of Bonnyville. Duchesne says it’s a love for the MD that had him put his name in to represent Ward 4.

“I grew up here, I worked here and my wife and I love it here. I have no personal agenda here.  I want to be your voice and get things done.” Duchesne says from living and working in the area for a long time he has grown relationships, that will be beneficial to the people, “I have a good rapport with people in this Ward and all of the MD. I know I can be your voice and get things done.”

Duchesne explains that on the campaign trail he’s had the opportunity to speak to many residents and has been able to identify four areas of concern that he will address, should he be successful in the election; crime & security, roads, communication, and planning & development.

  1. Crime and Security – “I don’t need to tell you how concerned people are about the theft around us.  We need to join together as Wards, MD’s, towns, villages and lobby the government.” Duchesne says he is tired of seeing the  “catch and release system”.  “We need harsher penalties, including young offenders. Lobbying the province and feds on behalf of the entire  northeastern Alberta would be a great beginning on our behalf.” Duchesne also questions whether MD Peace Officers are the best use of the MD’s money or if it would be better served in funding additional RCMP members in the region.

  1. Road – “I’ve heard everything from, ‘we are neglected, they won’t even look at our road’, to ‘look what a crappy job they did rebuilding this road’. We have a serious problem with quality of roads and equality for everyone. ” Duchesene says he’s noticed an overwhelming dissatisfaction with the roads in the MD and calls for, “better leadership, supervision, accountability, retraining.” He suggests utilizing more local people and local contractors. “I promise to look into the road use agreements with our local oil companies.  The trucking road to Wolf Lake is pathetic, it wasn’t that way until all of the oilfield traffic.”

  1. Communication – “We are not being heard,” says Duchesne, “I have had countless people tell me that their concerns fall on deaf ears. I want to change this, if elected, I will quit well drilling and dedicate all of my time to this position.” Duchesne proposes that town hall meetings return so the public will have a voice.

  1. Planning & Economic Development –  “I have heard of lots of frustration and inequality in our Ward.  Development for some in the MD is not a problem anywhere; others are refused for seemingly no justifiable reason. With new and different ideas maybe we can get some new development in the area.” He believes that by reviewing the Municipal Development Plan, which is 10 years old, improvements will be more easily spotted.

“MD Council has done some good things.” Duchesne says he does not want to change operations completely and doesn’t expect major changes overnight. If elected, he is committed to working with fellow Councillors and Reeve to improve areas residents have noted as concerns.  “We are one of the wealthiest MD’s in Alberta; but, there is always room for improvement and adjustment.  Change does NOT happen overnight but good decisions can lead to positive changes.  We can do better through new ideas and proper discussion.”
