Interesting…

It was an interesting weekend in Cold Lake football. The Seniors saw an all-time low in players dressed on Friday. On Saturday, the Bantams took a big win, their first of the season, over Wainwright.

Bantams win over Wainwright

The Ravens found themselves travelling to Wainwright for a big match. Entering the game, the Ravens were without a win on the season. The Ravens beat Wainwright 34-6. The teams were nearly evenly matched in numbers. The bantams were overjoyed post-game. The Bantams will play on October 14 in Lloydminster.

“We had a few more guys than them. It was a nice competitive game. We were a little bit better, but our kids needed that. They needed a little momentum help. Get a win, and get a little momentum. We had a good week of practice, and got healthy.” Coach Kelly Johnson says.

Royals dress 18

It was a tough weekend for the Cold Lake Royals. They dressed 18 players after injuries depleted an already low numbered squad. Lloydminster rolled into town with 59 players on the bus. It was a mismatch to put it lightly, but that didn’t stop the Cold Lake boys from playing tough. The game would be called at 23-0, and Lloydminster got a chance to field back-ups the rest of the way. The second half was a good preparation for the Royals as they play Thursday in Lloydminster.

“Ended up we called it at 23-0… We just played. They rolled their kids over, and played their kids. It was kind of an exhibition game for us.” Joshnson explains, “Us coaches were proud of our kids. They played through. Some kids were playing hard, but playing tired.”
