Crusaders Six Man Football Team Ready For Season
Second year
The Assumption Crusaders have had a six man football team for three years now. This season will be the team’s second year playing in a league. The Alberta 6 Man Football League is a sixteen team league, with a north and south division. Assumption Jr./Sr. High finished last year with a record of 3-5.
“We had some really exciting success last year for being our first year in the league. We went to the tier 2 championship, we lost to Caroline by 12 points. It was exciting. The boys wanted to come back this year, and had some goals to continue to build on last year’s success.” Head Coach Shayne Midford explains.
What is 6 man football?
A very simple question to ask, and a simple question to answer. The only major difference between regular high school football, and the six man side is field size. All the same rules apply, but the field is about forty yards wide by 80-110 yards long.
“The length isn’t really as big of a factor as the width. On offense we have six guys, and on defense we have six guys. They go at it, tackle and run whatever they want. It’s fast, it’s exciting. It’s almost like Arena Football. I encourage any of our kids, and anyone in the community to come out and watch.” Coach Midford says.
The Crusaders play their games on Jackson Field in-between Assumption Jr./Sr. High School, and the Cold Lake RCMP Detachment.
Opening Home Game
The Assumption Crusaders will face Holy Redeemer from Edson in their opening home game this Friday, September 8. The game will take place at Jackson Field. Kick-off is 4:30 p.m.
