Siren Stories Tour Educating Alberta on Women’s Shelters

Andrea Nixon has seen firsthand the impact that domestic violence has had in the lives of children. As a teacher, she felt helpless to be able to change their reality so she started to put her feelings into her music.

The #SirenStories Tour is based on one of Nixon’s original songs, “Waiting for Sirens.” A partnership between Nixon, Project Wild Alberta and the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters (ACWS) made this tour possible. Together they are visiting over 10 shelters in support of their cause.
“We are also working on a video series that will give a chance for frontline workers and survivors to tell their stories,” said Nixon.

This tour is a great opportunity to have a relaxing evening, with great music and to support a great cause. The Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre and Beantree’s Café have collaborated to bring the #SirensStories Tour to Cold Lake and support the DMSCC and its work.
“When Andrea contacted me, I thought this would be a wonderful event and so different from anything we have done in the past,” said Serina Parsons, Resource Development Coordinator with the DMSCC. “I am very passionate about educating the Cold Lake community about our organization, and I was inspired by this project and wanted the DMSCC to be a part of it.”

Nixon’s sound is inspired by female artists like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton as she bravely reveals herself through her music. The underlying message of her music is to be brave and discover the courage within yourself to be you.

The event will be held on September 6, 2017 at Beantree’s Café at 7pm. Admission is by donation.
