Lakeland Football Overview: Part 2 – Bonnyville Voyaguers

Last Updated: August 24, 2017By Tags: , ,

Part two of our look across the Lakeland Football scene features the Bonnyville Voyaguers. The Voyaguers are looking to be a healthy club this year, with an impressive 37 student roster projected.

New home field

The Voyaguers, Bandits, and Renegades will get to play some if not all of the season on the new Walsh Field. The turf will be a learning curve for new players, as well as returning players. On all accounts, the field will play faster, and be a more consistent field of play.

Looking good

“We’re looking pretty good, we have a good returning core. We don’t have as many grade 12’s with the same kind of experience as before, we’re pulling in some good grade 10’s. We’re sitting at 37, traditionally we’ve only been at 25, 26 kids. Our numbers are looking pretty solid. We’re pretty happy.” Voyaguers Coach Larry Godziuk says.

The Voyaguers have most of their key positions decided at this point. The Voyaguers will be going to a Jamboree this weekend in Sherwood Park, where the remaining roster questions will shake out.

Expanded games

The Voyaguers will host or travel for their first home game on Labour Day, depending on the status of Walsh Field. They will play Whitecourt that day. The following week they will play Fort McMurray. The Voyaguers will be back home on September 16.

“We’re playing Whitecourt and Fort McMurray. See some new faces. We have room in the schedule, so no sense in wasting it.” Coach Godziuk explains.
