Over 22,000 kms of trail stretches across the Nation.

The Great Trail, formerly known as the Trans-Canada Trail, is celebrating its completion with a party in Elk Point, St. Paul and Ashmont. The trail, which stretches across Canada, goes through the area via Hiensburg to Waskatenau on the Iron Horse Trail.

The Elk Point Chamber and Alberta’s Iron Horse Trail are co-hosting an event at the Elk Point Staging Area on August 26th to celebrate the Cross-Canada Connection of the Trans Canada Trail. In St. Paul there will be a similar even held at the staging area, Reunion Station. Volunteers will be at the the staging areas of both towns offering free hot dogs and prize draws to everyone walking along the trail.

According to Travel Lakeland’s Facebook Page if you want to attend the celebration in Ashmont, you’ll have to win your way in! “They’ll be hosting an event in Ashmont on August 26th with comedy duo Andrew Grose and Ken Valgardson. This event is by invitation only and you can claim your tickets by posting a photo of your Alberta`s Iron Horse Trail adventure in the comments section using #TheGreatTrail. Limit of two tickets per entry, one entry per person and limited to the first 100 people.”

The Great Trail spans across Canada, making it possible to walk from one coast to another, with over 22,000 kilometre of trail. After 25 years, the project is nearly completed and once it is, it’ll be the longest trail in the world.
