Group play a blast

As with minor baseball, soccer provincials is tiered based on previous results. The U-12 Dynamos went to Lethbridge for Tier 3 provincials. The team played a game Friday against Fort McMurray and won 5-2. They went into Saturday with a must win mentality. They faced the West Warriors Saturday, who were the team to beat in the tournament. The Dynamos played strong defense and found themselves a 2-1 win. They would beat Medicine Hat 9-0 later in the day to go 3-0 in the group stage.

Medal rounds

The U-12 Dynamos matched up against Lethbridge FC in the semi-finals. Both teams were hungry to play for the gold medal. It was a tough game, but the Dynamos defense stood up again. Bonnyville won 3-0, and advanced to the gold medal game. PSA Vengeance stood in Bonnyville’s way of a gold medal. The Dynamos struck first, and looked to have a bit of momentum. The Vengeance side started to control play, and was able to turn the tide into a 2-1 lead in their favour. The Dynamos did everything they could in the final minutes, but couldn’t manage a goal. The Vengeance took advantage of number, and netted the goal that sealed the game, 3-1.

Coach Pomerleau sees progress

“We knew everything was going to change after this year. We were going to see which direction we are going. They showed they can play at this level. They can probably play above this level if they keep pushing… We just about pulled it out. [The boys] were so close. Overall I’m really proud of them. I’m happy for them. I can’t wait to get started again, I wish we were still going.” Coach Mike Pomerleau says.

Next up…

The players will get their chance to try out for the rural selects sometime soon. Coach Pomerleau looks forward to the process that will combine the best U-13 players. After that wraps up, the boys look forward to possibly putting together an equally competitive indoor club.
