Bonnyville Pontiacs Ready For Big Main Camp

Who’s ready for hockey season? The Bonnyville Pontiacs have finalized their Main Camp schedule. The Jr. A club has a big couple of days set to shape their roster. Main Camp is set to run from August 25th – 29th. The Yaks will play their first AJHL exhibition game on August 30th. Main camp will be held at the Bonnyville Centennial Centre.

“We’ve taken the strides to allow us to get the interest of 160 kids in our spring camp. We’re a destination of choice… We’re in a position where we are getting [high caliber] players in here. Both with Character and ability.” Pontiacs Head Coach Rick Swan said on Connect @ 10 on August 1.

August 25

Your first chance to see what Pontiacs hockey will look like in 2017-2018 will be August 25. The schedule goes as such:

• 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. – Gold Practice
• 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Blue vs. Red (Game 1)
• 3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Red Practice
• 4:15 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Blue vs Gold (Game 2)

August 26

• 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. – Blue Practice
• 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Red vs. Gold (Game 3)
• 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. – Gold Practice
• 4:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. – Red v.s Blue (Game 4)

August 27

• 9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. – Red Practice
• 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Blue vs Gold (Game 5)

August 28

• 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. – Team WHITE Practice
• 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. – Team BLACK Practice
• 7:00 p.m. – Milton Romanchuk Cup (R.J. Lalonde Arena)

August 29

• 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Second Black vs White Game

“I think this year more than any, we are excited for camp to start. We had a very successful spring camp, and summer of recruiting. We are able to bring in 60 players for three teams in Main Camp. What we are envisioning is the best Main Camp in history. Some very high end kids. We also have some NCAA schools that will be coming to our first exhibition games because of the kids we have.” Assistant Coach Neil Langridge says.

Roster trims to exhibition schedule

After the five days of inter-squad games, and practices, the Pontiacs roster will shrink. They will face Lloydminster in their first exhibition game of the season on August 30th. The game will be played at the RJ Lalonde Arena in Bonnyville. Fans will get their first taste of the Yaks 2017-2018 season during the game.
