Bonnyville U-12 Dynamos Take Gold in Calgary

The U-12 Dynamos made the long trip to Calgary this weekend a successful one. The team managed to capture the gold medal in decisive fashion. The boys have one more practice before provincials in Lethbridge.

Group play tests Dynamos

The first team the Dynamos faced in the Calgary Cup was the EMFC. They played to a 6-1 victory, in a game full of energy and poise. They then faced Calgary West Hills, and seemed to lack energy. The U-12 Dynamos battled through, and handled themselves defensively. A lack of execution still resulted in a 2-2 tie for the Dynamos. Their final group play game was against the Foothills side, and the boys managed to clean sheet the game, winning 4-0.

“It was a complete opposite of the Saturday night game. We executed everything perfectly, and had some great set pieces. We had a great free kick goal that was finished on a header… They just executed better that game.” Coach Mike Pomerleau says.

Gold medal game

The Dynamos won their group, and found themselves in the gold medal game on Monday.  The team faced Coaldale in a close match. They fought some defensive misplays in the early going, but woke up and took control of the game. They went on to take the game 7-2 over the Coaldale side.

“After that second goal we had scored against us,  we decided not to play that way. We went back to playing simple.” Coach Pomerleau explains, “The boys were excited [to win], they were pretty proud of winning the gold medal, and tournament. Once they got over that, they knew they can do this, now going into this weekend they know what they have to do. Once they got that gold medal, they just had that quick turn around, and have to turn around for next weekend.”

Provincials

The boys will participate in tier 3 provincials in Lehtbridge this upcoming weekend. It will mark the end of a successful season that has seen Coach Pomerleau continue to teach most of the kids, who are mostly in their fourth year under Pomerleau.
