Bonnyville U-12 Dynamos Preparing for Provincials

It’s been a great year of soccer for the Bonnyville U-12 Dynamos. The club soccer team has had a great time playing at a highly competitive level. Headed into provincials next weekend they sit in Tier 3. The dynamos will be in Calgary for a tournament this weekend.

Tournaments only

The U-12 Dynamos play every game in tournament style. They played their first tournament in Sherwood Park, and went 2-2. The team plays this weekend in Calgary, and then have provincials in Lehtrbidge the following weekend.

“I think it’s gone really well. We’ve only had the on tournament so far in Sherwood Park, the K-days kickoff. We lost our first game to Yellowknife, beat the Sherwood Park Pheonix, and then beat the Vegreville tier 2 team. Our last game we played the Mills Woods team, and beat them 5-4.” Coach Mike Pomerleau explains. “Our biggest problem has been our defensive lapses. The game we lost 5-4, we were up 3-1, and we gave up two goals right before half time.”

Prep work goes in

Coach Pomerleau has noted the defensive issues the U-12 Dynamos have had at times. They have focused on positioning without the ball, and have been working hard since the Sherwood Park tournament. Another important piece of training has been defensive skills after just getting the ball.

Calgary and beyond

The team heads to Calgary Friday to play the weekend. They begin play on Saturday against EMFC at 12 p.m. They go on to play Calgary West Hills United at 6 p.m. Saturday night. Their final game of round robin is 10 a.m. on Sunday against Foothills. The Dynamo may have games on Monday depending on how they do in round robin.

Quick turn around

The team will head down south Thursday or Friday next week to get set for Provincials in Lethbridge. They will have a three day schedule in Lehtrbidge for Tier 3 provincials.
