Mayor Bonnyville, Gene Sobolewski has confirmed that he will be seeking re-election. “It was not a hard decision to make,” says the mayor as he looks to hold his seat at the head of the table.

“There’s still a lot that we need to do to complete our vision and planning that needs to be done,” although the mayor says there’s lot left to complete planning for the Town, he says a lot has been accomplished, “we’ve been able to accomplish quite a bit; but essentially, there’s a lot more to do. I’m looking forward to working on it with the new Council and where the journey will take us.”

Sobolewski is no stranger to municipal politics, prior to taking the mayor’s chair, he served three terms as a Councillor for the Town of Bonnyville. “I not only know Bonnyville, but the Lakeland and some of the issues that surround [our region]. I also stay in touch with the Provincial politics and the changing atmosphere of the provincial Government and some of their goals. It’s aligning the Town’s goals and the regions and making it all happen.”

“It’s prosperity of this region. Make the town prosper, while working with the MD (Municipal District of Bonnyville) and the City of Cold Lake and Glendon. We don’t want to be the forgotten sibling, like we had been for so many years. We’re doing quite well with the amount of money the Province has put into this region over the last few years.”

The municipal election is October 16th. For more information about how to run for Council or Mayor stop by the Town of Bonnyville Office or go online town.bonnyville.ab.ca.
