Man flees Scene of Head On Collision
Elk Point RCMP arrest erratic driver with stolen vehicle
On July 11, 2017 at approximately 3:12 p.m., Elk Point RCMP responded to an erratic driver passing through a construction zone on Highway 41. While responding, police were provided an update regarding a collision that occurred on Highway 29 and Range Road 73.
Upon arrival police learned that a head on collision had occurred involving the same erratic driver that was reported resulting in a head on collision with another vehicle when it crossed the centre line. Members along with St. Paul RCMP arrived within minutes and learned that the suspect had fled on foot into an adjacent field. A search was conducted and the suspect driver was located and arrested a short time later. He was transported to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries from the collision. The vehicle he was driving was previously reported stolen from Cold Lake.
The lone occupant of the vehicle that was hit head on was treated for serious but non life-threatening injuries, and also transported to hospital by EMS.
A 37-year-old man is now facing charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended, and resisting arrest.
His name cannot be released at this time pending swearing of an information.
