The Bonnyville Friendship Centre unveiled the Canada 150 project, a mosaic that encompassed the people and culture of Bonnyville at the July 1st celebrations. The unveiling was one of the many events celebrating the nations 150th birthday.

The Mosaic was made from pictures residents of Bonnyville submitted. Photos used were determined by a committee. The mosaic will be displayed at the Bonnyville & District Centennial Centre.

The day began with a pancake breakfast at the museum grounds, which was greatly attended and a perfect indicator of the day to follow. One of the largest parades in recent years went through the streets with miles-long crowds gathering to collect candies and trinkets thrown from float. The floats was magnificent and vast.

Free afternoon activities were hosted at Jesse Lake, leading into a performance from Canadian pop star, Shawn Desmond. Following the performance the fireworks lead people to the close of the celebrations.

Fireworks malfunction

There was one disappointment of the day when the fireworks did not ignite as planned. Mayor of Bonnyville, Gene Sobolewski took to social media to explain the company providing the fireworks had new equipment, which misfired.

The Town will update people as to whether or not the fireworks display will be rescheduled for another date this summer. Lakeland Connect will keep you posted as this develops.
