Canada 150 + Libraries

Cenovus Energy Donated $5,000 to Cold Lake Library

On Saturday, June 17, Cenovus Energy presented a cheque for $5,000.00 to the Cold Lake Public Library. To celebrate the event, there was music by the 4 Wing Band, speeches by Cold Lake Public Library Director Leslie Price, MLA of Bonnyville-Cold Lake Scott Cyr, and Cold Lake Councillor Vicky Lefebvre.

The Garden Party, which was open to the public and held in the Cold Lake Public Library Reading Garden, featured a self-serve taco bar, barbecued corn on the cob, and a variety of homemade lemonade drinks. Children’s activities included outdoor painting and glitter tattoos. To celebrate Canada 150, the Canadian energy company is donating $5000.00 to the 22 cities and towns in Alberta and Saskatchewan that have Cenovus operating communities.

Andrea Wagner, Community Affairs Advisor, explains, “it’s important for Cenovus to find ways to give back to the communities where we work and live. Libraries align with our community investment focus which includes literacy and learning.”

Of the 22 libraries receiving cheques, there will be five cheque presentation events. Cold Lake was their third stop. “We asked libraries to use their funds for something that would have a lasting impact; something that would be tangible for several years, and that people could recognize was for Canada 150,” stated Wagner. Many of the libraries who received the funds are putting the money toward projects that will make their libraries more accessible and inviting to the public. These projects include improvements to shelving, reference desk areas, and spaces for youth.
