The Bonnyville Library received a generous gift from Cenovus Energy on Wednesday, $5,000. The money will be used to purchase new furniture for the pre-teen section of the library. The furniture is expected to arrive in September.

“It’s fantastic, you don’t often get a phone call saying, ‘hey, we’re going to donate $5,000 to you’!” Ina Smith with the Bonnyville Library says it was a great phone call to receive, “it’s really great for us. It’ll allow us to buy some bigger items that we don’t have the budget for.” Smith says the money will be used to buy new lounge furniture that’s more appropriate for pre-teens. “We’re very excited!”

Andrea Wagner with Cenvus Energy, says the money came to help celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday, “at Cenovus, we’re a proud, Canadian Energy Company. We wanted to celebrate this milestone birthday by giving back to the communities where we live and we work.”

The donation came as a surprise to the Library in a sense, as they did not have to apply for the funds, “it was a proactive way for us to give back, in a way that’s meaningful to the communities,” explains Wagner. “We are consistently looking for ways to invest and make our communities stronger.”

Cenovus also donated the food for the Library’s summer reading program. The program gets underway in a couple weeks and fills up quickly. To get your child in, stop by the Bonnyville Library.
