Kehewin Football Player to Play in U-16 Western Challenge

Watchmaker thankful for those who helped

Navarone Watchmaker is headed to Lethbridge, Alberta to play in the 2017 U-16 Westeran Football Challenge. As much as he is excited to go, he is grateful for those who helped get him to this point.

“I want to thank my coaches, they taught me everything. They made me who I am as a player. I almost didn’t play football. If it wasn’t for Coach Trevor, he told me to come back, and we’d fix things up. That’s where I am today. Without Coach Trevor and that call I wouldn’t be where I am today.” Watchmaker explains.

U-16 Western Challenge

The tournament begins July 2nd in Lethbridge. Team Alberta will suit up for three games against Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia. Navarone will be the only representative the Lakeland has at the challenge. He was selected to go after participating in the Bantam Bowl. The 6’4″ offensive lineman impressed coaches during the game, and earned his spot on Team Alberta.

Excited to go

“I want to bond with my team. This weekend we are meeting in Red Deer for a one day practice, to install some plays. Then two weeks later, we head out on a coach bus together, so we can travel and bond.” Watchmaker says, “Our first game I hope we win, but it’s going to take a lot of team effort, and team bonding.”

Navarone is guaranteed a schedule of three games. There will most likely be scouts in attendance to watch over the talent pool of the four provinces. Roughly twenty kids will be selected from this tournament to be a part of Team Canada. Team Canada will face Team USA in the International Bowl at a date to be determined. For now, Navarone Watchmaker remains focused on bonding with his Team Alberta teammates and having a strong team showing.
