Natalie Thompson Prepares for Ottawa
It’s been a heck of a ride so far for Natalie Thompson. The Grade 11 student has been training for and competing in several competitions of late. All of the work she’s putting in is culminating in a trip to Ottawa to compete in Track and Field Nationals.
ASAA Provincials
Natalie competed in the ASAA Provincials on June 2 and 3. Thompson walked away with quite a bit of hardware from the competition.
- Gold Medal – 1st place in Triple Jump – 11.65m
- Silver – 2nd place in Long Jump – 5.44m
- Bronze – 3rd place in 80m Hurdles – 12.25s
“Last weekend went really well because I almost got a personal best. It was a really good way to start the high level season, my track meets before were small. That was my first real competition, and it put me in a good direction.” Natalie Thompson says.
Natalie Thompson Off to Ottawa
Thompson is off to Ottawa in July. She has track meets every weekend leading up to Nationals in Ottawa. She leaves to compete on July 6. The competition runs July 6-9. Natalie will be competing on the national stage in Long Jump and Triple Jump. While not competing, Thompson has been training hard multiple days a week.
“It’s going to be a hard one. There’s going to be a lot of crazy jumpers. It’s going to be cool to see them because I don’t travel much out of Alberta. It’ll be good to see what the competition is like in another area with a lot more people.” Thompson explains, “I’m super excited, especially with the support I’ve been getting, and the recognition.”
