Spring camp has and gone for the Bonnyville Voyaguers football club. Friday, May 26, the Voyaguers were in Edmonton for their Spring Jamboree.

Get set, Go!

It was the first chance for the coaching staff to evaluate how much players have progressed during spring camp. Players have been practicing three times a week in preparation for the jamboree.

The Jamboree format involves only using half the field, and touchdowns counting as one point.

Results

The results were very positive for the Voyaguers, despite losing two games. They won their first game by a large margin,  8-2 over Oscar Romero. The next game for the Voyaguers was fairly close, but they lost 4-3 to Holy Trinity. Their final game was a defensive struggle in which they lost 3-2 to St. Francis Xavier.

“We went into the weekend on Friday with the attitude people were going to play because we needed to see what they could do. I think we did pretty well. We had some unexepected performances, and the kids that we thought would do well did.” Head Coach Larry Godziuk says. “Now we have a little bit of planning. We have a good idea what each individual can do what. Put a playbook together, and get ready for August.”

Players will have the summer to take in football camps, and workout in preparation for the fall season. Voyaguers football picks back up in mid-August.
