The Veterans UN-NATO Cold Lake Crew held their first annual Toy Run on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Thirty-five riders completed a 385 km run around the Lakeland area. Motorcycle riders included veterans, serving members, and supporters of the cause. The route took them through Cold Lake, Bonnyville, Elk Point, Vermillion, and St. Paul.
The toys that were collected are going to the hospital in Cold Lake and Bonnyville. Regional Representative Christie Strazza is thankful to everyone who came out to support the group. “People from Meadow Lake and Saskatoon supported us with donations. A UN-NATO veteran came up from Edmonton to ride with us. And one person paid $100.00 for a hot dog and didn’t want the hot dog.” As a twenty-five year veteran, Strazza says the group allows her to stay in contact with her military brothers and sisters. Next weekend, the group plans to ride to Edmonton to present Valour Place with a cheque for $1000.00.
The money was raised through donations at the BBQ held during the Toy Run. The two huge boxes of toys the group collected will be making their way to the hospitals so that children who are in the emergency room or staying at the hospital will have a new toy to comfort them and take home with them.
