160 Players to Attend Pontiacs Spring Camp

The Bonnyville Pontiacs will host their 2017 spring camp starting tomorrow (May 26). The camp will run throughout the weekend and feature team scrimmages.

Drawing from everywhere

160 players will be coming to Bonnyville to partake in spring camp. Players will come from as far as Alaska to battle for an invite to main camp later in the year. Over the past few years, Pontiacs spring camp has become a hot commodity among  hopeful players.

“We had to turn away forty kids to maintain the integrity of our evaluations. Five years ago we barely had enough for four teams. Now we’ve got eight full teams.” Coach Rick Swan says.

Veterans play a big part

There’s something unique about how the Pontiacs do spring camp. Swan says the Pontiacs are the only Jr. A team where veterans play a role in spring camp.

“It’s so it gives us an opportunity right in May to determine whether or not a player can play at our level or not. They look at a responsibility to help us as a coaching staff.” Swan explains, “We’re really excited to bring our entire scouting staff in.”

You can catch it live

The RJ Lalonde Arena will be open during the weekend for anybody to come down and see who is competing for a spot in main camp. The weekend runs May 26-28.
