Significant Sponsorship of Walsh Field Ground-Breaking Ceremony
Anonymous donor gives $1.5 Mil towards upgrades.
Major renovations are planned for Walsh Field as a result of significant donations from the Municipal District (M.D.) of Bonnyville No. 87 and a local community benefactor. The benefactor has chosen to remain anonymous at this time. The M.D. of Bonnyville has contributed $240,000.00 and the benefactor has contributed $1.5 million.
President of the Bonnyville Amateur Football Association (BAFA) Dan Jubinville said, “I would first like to thank our generous financial backer and the M.D. of Bonnyville for their generosity. This is going to be an amazing facility not only for football in our community, but for track, lacrosse and soccer. It will give all of our children a place to practice, play and perfect their performance in their sport of choice on the best playing surface available. Our association and our steering committee have worked very hard for the last two and a half years and our vision for this project is truly coming to life.”
Mickey Fagnan, Coach of the Bonnyville Bantam Bandits said that Walsh Field will undergo major upgrading as a result of these significant donations. The funding will be used to put in new turf, rubberize the track surface and install stands, change rooms and other pertinent amenities. He said, “It is going to be absolutely awe inspiring when it is done.”
Currently Lakeland Catholic School District (LCSD) has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with BAFA for improvements to Walsh Field. After the new sod and track are installed, a new lease agreement will be negotiated.
Chairperson of the LCSD Board Mary Anne Penner said, “We are very happy to partner with BAFA in these major improvements. This space is truly a community space and we are extremely grateful to the generous benefactor and the M.D. of Bonnyville for their sponsorship.” This key facility will be a hub for approximately 900 local athletes to refine their skills.
Upgrades to the field will make Bonnyville a destination point for high-level lacrosse, soccer, football and track events. Various lines will be included in this space making it a truly multi-sport venue. The introduction of sporting events of this caliber will result in significant revenue for Bonnyville.
On Friday May 5, at 1:00 pm a Ground-Breaking Ceremony will take place at Walsh Field. During this key event, the benefactor will be acknowledged. Representatives from the M.D. of Bonnyville will be in attendance to be recognized for their sponsorship of this facility as well. Stakeholders from various groups involved will be there to provide remarks. Board Chairperson Mary Anne Penner, Trustees and Secretary Treasurer Sylvia Slowski will represent Lakeland Catholic School District.
