RCMP Remind Public to Protect Against Theft

If you witness a theft call 911. Do not take matters into your own hands.

The Cold Lake RCMP are reminding the public to protect themselves against property crime. Last week, the Detachment responded to six property related crimes, ranging from break and enters to theft of property and vehicle theft.

“The public is asked to take whatever precautions they can,” Constable Dave Hart, with the Cold Lake RCMP, advises that theft is typically a crime of opportunity. Thieves will look for unlocked doors, or valuables in plain sight. “Not leaving your keys in a vehicle or not leaving your vehicle running while you run into a store,” a good ways to protect yourself, says Constable Hart.

“We need to hear from you,” Constable Hart says sometimes people don’t report theft right away. He advises to report any and all theft and strongly advises not to take matters into your own hands.

“If you see any occurrences taking place, you have info on stolen property or witness suspicious activity, report it,” Constable Hart says these can be reported to the Cold Lake RCMP at 780-594-3302 or Crimestoppers  1-800-222-TIPS (8477). If the theft is happening, call 911.
