Food Fixations

Well Easter is over for another year. How many people feel they overindulged this past holiday weekend? Do you feel guilty? How many people have resolved to either get back on or start a new diet or fitness regimen?

The reason I ask is that I’ve noticed a lot more the resolutions of people to diet or workout more; not just because it’s New Years now, but for any and every reason…holiday overindulgence, vacation overindulgence (food and drink) or because they are going on vacation, weddings, birthdays, etc. There doesn’t seem to be any lack of reasons for people (mostly women) to feel they need to do better or do more where food and exercise are concerned.

When did food become a bad thing? It’s either don’t eat fat, sugar, salt, carbs or eat more fat or protein. New diets are always being developed and promoted. People who are desperate to lose weight or look a certain way seem to be willing to do most things that people in the diet business are selling.

I wish weight loss was easier for everyone, not just the select few. I wish people did not have to go to extremes to get the bodies they want…or the body the world tells them they should have. I wish food wasn’t such a concern, problem or enemy for people.

In my perfect world, no one would diet. They would eat healthy, wholesome, mostly home-cooked meals and snacks when they felt hungry. People would grow some of their own food. Grocery shopping would be an enjoyable experience. Meal preparation and cooking would be a family activity. People would never feel guilty because they ate the “wrong” foods or too much of something. Eating out would not be shameful, but enjoyed. Food would not be the enemy!

This was just my two cents this week. I can dream, can’t I?!
