It’s been a long offseason for Reid Skrypichayko. The grade 12 student has been off since finishing his last season of high school football in the fall. After several successful years with the Bonnyville Bandits and Voyaguers, Skrypichayko finds himself looking to the next level.

“I took a quick break from football, but I stayed active. I got ready in the spring, I knew I had some offers on the table.” Skrypichayko says.

Alberta Senior Bowl

The Alberta Senior Bowl is a showcase for graduating high school football players. The top 80 graduating football players battle in a north vs south All-Star Game. Tryouts were held Thursday, April 13 through Saturday, April 15 in Edmonton, and the list of players who made the cut was released on Monday.

“A few of my old coaches texted me, and a few coaches who want me to play for their teams texted me congratulations.” Skrypichayko explains how he found out the news.

The Alberta Senior Bowl game is scheduled for May Long weekend in Calgary. The game will be hosted at McMahon Stadium for Monday, May 22.

“[Reid’s] a good football player, he’s got a high sports IQ and plays the game well. I’m glad he got the chance to show off his stuff.” Larry Godziuk, coach of the Voyaguers, says.

What’s next

Skrypichayko will tryout for the University of Alberta Golden Bears football team at the end of the month. He is attending the U of A for a Bachelor of Commerce in the fall.
