Benefit for House Fire Victim
Potluck Supper & Auction on May 6th.
Friends of Violet LaPratt are hosting a benefit dinner to help their friend rebuild her life after a house fire on April 7th at Crane Lake. Thankfully, LaPratt was not home at the time of the fire; however she lost everything. LaPratt plans to convert a garage into a living space on the property until she is able to rebuild.
The day after the blaze, Deputy Fire Chief for the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority, Jay Melvin, said that he could not determine the cause of the fire and it was believed that it came from the attic. The investigation is ongoing. Unfortunately, LaPratt did not have insurance at the time of the fire, so any rebuild or cost of lost property will be at her expense. She also lost her dog during the fire.
Friend of LaPratt’s, MaryAnne Leroux, says the community wants to do something to help, “within the local community our feeling is that she needs this fundraiser with a silent auction to supply her with some needed cash to refurbish the site and to renovate her garage to be suitable for permanent living quarters.”
Any funds raised will be used to cleanup the site and get power hooked to her garage. As well as allow for LaPratt to purchase items to live.If you would like to donate in advance contact Brenda 780-826-0346 or Carmela 780-812-6600.
