Power Restored to Kehewin; Repairs to Waterline Continue
Members go over 30 hours without power.
Power to Kehewin Cree Nation was restored just after midnight on Easter Sunday. Many members of the Nation had gone over 30 hours without electricity. Crews are still working to restore the main waterline.
On Saturday, Kehewin Administration announced a local State of Emergency as they dealt with the overflow of members in need of assistance. A post on Kehewin Voices Facebook page thanked everyone who pitched in and assisted during the trying time, “thanks to the diligence and preparation of our Emergency Response Team with Health Services an Public Works and with the continual help and support of the community we have been able to keep on top of addressing the needs of the community as they arose.”
The post goes on detail specific efforts, “Public Works with volunteering, community members have plowed most driveways that were not flooded, or deep in mud, and continue to work hard.
Health centre staff transported all concerned members to a safe place in Bonnyville, delivered water and needs to the people, and continually monitored clients.”
“Thank you to everyone who is hosting family and neighbours and opening doors to make space.”
The post speaks of the resilience of Kehewin Cree Nation and its ability of the members to work together to get through the emergency. The water line is expected to be restored soon and power has returned to most of the reserve “because of the extensive and diligent hardwork from ATCO workers. Excellent Job!”

NOTICE from EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM:
We are asking for patience while we continue with dealing with plowing driveways, and water delivery, we asking you still to conserve your water as we start the deliveries. Please report if you are out of water completely, so we can hit those as priority in our runs. It will still take time as we don’t want our water trucks to get stuck in the muddy or flooded driveways.
We are continuing our bottle water delivery today and also maintaining a list of those homes who need bottled water delivered.
FOR THOSE RETURNING TO HOMES TODAY WITH RESTORED POWER.
social development and Administration is working on some help for food spoilage. Only those affected with the power outage. Please call in with your house number and who resides in the home. I have a running list of the homes that had no power.
Thank you for your patience.
