New Running Group will get you ready for the MS Walk/Run
The Lakeland Chapter of the MS Society is celebrating its 10th Anniversary of the Walk for MS. This year in preparation for the event, there is a running group starting to prepare people to take on a more challenging route.
Brenda Rosychuk, with the Lakeland MS Society, explains, “we’re starting an MS Running group on April 5th. For anybody who’s wanting an extra push or extra training session. It’ll be six weeks on Wednesday at 6:30 pm.” The MS Society has teamed up with the Primary Care Network to run the group, says Brenda, “their dietitian Janelle Richard will be leading the group.”
The MS Walk/Run will be the Saturday of the Mother’s Day weekend, May 13th. This year’s event will feature 2km, 5km and 10km Walk OR 5km, 10km and Half Marathon Runs.
Brenda is excited with an update as to fundraising, “we’re sitting at 314 people registered,” last year around this time of year there was 115 people registered. “Our numbers are up by about 400%, they’re the top of the country, right now.” Brenda says it probably has lot to do with the 10 year anniversary.
There will be exciting additions to this year’s walk, including a live band; Boomtown. Local singers, Cassidy Zahar and Tiana Tanasichuk are going to be singing at the event, as well, confirms Brenda. “I think the hype around the event has upped it a little bit.”
You can register by calling Brenda at 587-465-0185 or go online to mswalks.ca. “We are challenging everyone who registers to fundraise $10, in support of the 10th anniversary,” Brenda says you can check out the top fundraisers at mswalks.ca to get inspired.
