Local Musician releases fiddle album
Maria Sue-Anne Roberts is launching her second CD, entitled Undertow, at Cold Lake’s Beantrees Café on Wednesday, March 8. Roberts won’t be performing alone that night though. Appearing on stage with her will be Marla Haring on fiddle, Megan Bailey and Tracy Belsher on backup vocals, and Terry Carter on guitar.
The band has been rehearsing whenever they can because they will be recorded live that evening for a popular Canadian radio show out of Calgary hosted by Russell Bowers. Roberts says she isn’t too nervous as this isn’t her first time appearing on radio, but it will be the first time she’s being featured. Haring says, “It will be a fiddling highlight for me.” The musicians will be performing four songs for the show. Craig Konechny, owner of Beantrees, said there are tickets left for this free event which begins at 7:30 p.m.
Roberts’ music is an eclectic mix. “The music is a bit of road music, folk, blues, and rock. A real mish-mash”. Roberts, who like the radio host, is originally from Newfoundland, wants their sound to be “full and amazing”, and from what I heard during their rehearsal on Sunday afternoon, it will be. Roberts’ first CD, Fortune Favours Courage, is available through SoundCloud.
