Ice Crack Wainwright
Ice win 8-5 over the Bison
The Cold Lake Jr B Ice hosted the number one team in the Northeast Alberta Jr Hockey League (NEAJHL), the Wainwright Bison, on Wednesday evening; winning 8-5. Head Coach of the Ice, Scott Hood, says the game showed the club that they can take on and defeat any team in the league.
“Any time you can beat a first place team, it’s pretty exciting,” the coach says the win give the boys a much-needed confidence boost, as the wind down the regular season. “It’s a great start to the last three games of the year.”
Donavan Bibeau got things going early off a feed from Alex Antal 57 seconds into the game. The goal was answer three minutes later from Wainwright’s Tyler Fischer. The first would play out much like that with captain, Curtis Witney taking some help from Jason Hamilton to advance the Ice, only to have it answered again by the Bison. The Bison were next to advance, with Ethan Lacrocque tying things up for the Ice from Curtis Witney and Jason Hamilton before the close of the first.
A 3-3 game headed into the second, Donavan Bibeau started things off for the Ice again. Chandler Klein tied it up less than 6o seconds later. The Ice would finally gain some ground over Wainwright at the 12:43 mark of the second, when Ethan Lacrocque put in an unassisted goal, which was followed up by another Ice goal from Donavan Bibeau, with Curtis Witney and Alex Antal on the assist; that goal would prove to be the game winning, but it wouldn’t be the end of the Gs. Wainwright would get another goal just before the close of the second, from Taylor Schubada, to leave the period with a 6-5 score in favour of the Ice.
Both Alex Antal and Brae Howatt would both get unassisted goals for good measure in the third, ending the game 8-5 for the Ice. “Wainwright’s a good team,” Hood says it was thanks to great team effort that excelled the Ice to a win on Wednesday. “Keep it simple, that’s what we’ve been talking about all year. More or less just doing our job.”
