Cold Lake Man faces 41 charges; incl. theft & assault on an officer
Bonnyville RCMP charge man with multiple offences
On Dec. 25, 2016, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP responded to a firearm complaint at a residence. A victim advised that a firearm was pointed at him during an altercation at the residence. Police also found a vehicle that was stolen from Grande Prairie. The suspect fled before police arrived. A warrant was issued for Douglas James Murray who was believed to be the suspect.
On Jan. 3, 2017, a male suspect attended a gas station in Cold Lake and stole fuel without payment. While investigating police determined the vehicle used in the theft was reported stolen from the Cold Lake area several days prior.
On Jan. 4, 2017, a male suspect attended a Liquor store in Bonnyville and stole several items and then fled in the same stolen vehicle.
On Jan. 5, 2017, a business in Fort Kent reported a Break and Enter that occurred the previous evening. A male suspect caused damage to a gate and gained entry into a compound and fuel was stolen.
On Jan. 18, 2017, Cold Lake RCMP responded to a reported sighting of the stolen vehicle used in offences from Jan. 3 to Jan. 5, 2017. The vehicle was located at a property in Cold Lake. Upon entry into the driveway a male suspect jumped into the stolen vehicle and drove into a police vehicle causing extensive damage. The vehicle then fled the area and was located abandoned a short time later. No one was injured.
On Jan. 20, 2017, Cold Lake RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle was located but fled from police. The vehicle was found a short time later stuck in a ditch. A male along with a female youth suspect were taken into custody without incident.
Douglas James Murray, a 26-year-old from Cold Lake, is facing 41 criminal charges as a result of multiple investigations in Bonnyville and Cold Lake noted above. The charges include:
– Assault of a police officer
– Pointing a firearm
– Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
– Operate motor vehicle while being pursued by police
– Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle
– Mischief under $5000
– Obstruction of a police officer
– Break and Enter with intent
– Theft over $5000
– Possession of cocaine under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
– Fail to comply with a probation order
– Fail to comply with recognizance
He is set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on Jan. 24, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. via CCTV in relation to 19 charges.
Murray is also set to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on Jan. 25, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. via CCTV in relation to 22 charges.
The female youth has been charged with Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and outstanding warrants for Theft under $5000 and Fail to Appear (X2). The youth was remanded into custody and will appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on Jan. 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, her name cannot be published.
As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be made available.
