Agreement Reached Between Trinity Christian and Government

An agreement was filed today, (January 5th) at a court in Grande Prairie, between Trinity Christian School, in Cold Lake, and the Alberta Government. The agreement was met with the removal of Wisdom Home Schooling Society from the governance or the financial assistance/involvement of Trinity Christian.

The Minister of Education will appoint a financial administrator, that will serve to assist Trinity Christian’s Board of Directors for a minimum of one year. The financial administrator will serve by developing policies and practices for the school board.

The agreement comes after Trinity Christian School was closed, by the Government of Alberta, in October of 2016, after an audit performed by Alberta Education claimed that public funds were being mishandled. Along with a school in Cold Lake, Trinity Christian oversees 3,500+ home schooled students in Alberta.

At the time of its closure, Education Minister, David Eggen said the Government was committed to ensuring the well-being of the students, “Our government is committed to supporting Alberta’s students and to ensuring that as much public funding as possible is being directed to the classroom, whether that classroom is in a home or in a bricks-and-mortar school. The decision to cancel accreditation and registration for Trinity Christian School Association was made out of respect for taxpayers and the many families who entrusted this school to properly account for the funding granted for the purposes of their children’s education.”
