Hamel’s Meat Market

This is the perfect time of year to get to know your local butchers. A knowledgeable butcher will be able to ask questions about your needs and help you decide what cuts of meat will feed those 14 guests that your significant other decided to invite for a holiday feast!
During the summer, we enjoyed Hamel’s vacuum packed steaks and there is still a couple in the freezer waiting for a warmer day to drag out the barbeque in the snow! Today, I decided to try their in-store smoked whole chicken…and grabbed a couple of fresh steaks (which we will be using for our recipe on Friday!).
Some people feel a bit intimidated walking into a butcher shop but there is no need. You won’t see anything gross or nasty. Hamel’s is wonderfully clean as are every butcher shop. There are so many in-store prepared meats; pepperoni, garlic and ham sausages, bacon and so on. This is the area I found the smoked chickens. This aisle is mouthwatering!!
Along the back is the fresh meat counter. Service is great. I listened as the butcher patiently helped a gentleman figure out how much beef roast he would need for a family dinner.
We had the smoked chicken for supper. I could have warmed it in the oven. I served it with cheesy rice and sliced tomatoes for an easy quick meal. The meat was wonderfully tender and so delicious. Of course, we ate more than we should have!

Hamel’s Meat Market doesn’t have a website, preferring to sell in-store only. Joffre Hamel and his staff are friendly and personable and take time to answer your questions. Its well worth your time in this busy holiday season to stop by.
