Ice Freeze Tigers’ Roar
Cold Lake Jr B Ice take Vermilion Tigers 4-1
The Jr B Ice secured two points in front of the home crowd on Saturday evening, when the Vermilion Tigers were in town. Coming off an upsetting 6-1 loss to St. Paul, the Ice excelled to a 4-1 win at Imperial Oil Place. Assistant Coach for the Cold Lake Ice, Shawn Coles says the keys to success were the basics.
“The things we always talk about; shots, traffic to the net, keeping our feet moving, going hard,” Coles says it the same for any team out there, “you gotta get pucks deep, work hard and get out there. An unassisted goal by Nathan Duff starting the momentum for the Ice, which carried into a goal by Bryce Schultheiss with the assist to Chase Brown and Curtis Gullackson. That closed the period 2-0 for the hometown boys.
Both goal scorerers new to the club, Coles joyfully explains, “Nathan’s goal, right off the bat, exciting for the team. New kid comes out, gets called up, scores a goal, that’s exciting! Bruce comes out, second game with us, just terrific!”
Captain of the Ice, Curtis Witney, with help from Donavan Bibeau and Jacob Bartman placed a early second period goal past Vermilion’s goalie, Dakota Kenyon. The Tigers responded in the second with an unassisted goal from Evan Bardoel; however newbie, Schultheiss came out in the third and secured a 4-1 victory for the ice with a goal from Mackenzie Zarowny and Witney.
The Ice will welcome St. Paul to Imperial Oil Place next Saturday, “you know what to expect from St. Paul, they work hard, they have a fast team, they move the puck. We have to bury our chances and if we play like we did [against Vermilion] and bring pucks to the net, we’ll do alright,” Coles says he’s looking forward to the match against St. Paul. “The score didn’t do us justice, we worked hard in that game.”
