Sr Pontiacs Fall to Top Seeded Devon Barons

Short bench contributes to Bonnyville dropping important game

The Bonnyville Sr Pontiacs lost the battle for top spot in the North Central Senior Men’s Hockey League, after having key men missing from their line up and dropping a 4-1 decision to the Devon Barons on Saturday. Head Coach Chad Millnthrop says it’s tough in senior hockey because player’s have other commitments than just hockey.

“We were missing some of our key players for the game. It’s kinda hard with senior hockey, getting guys to practice. We have a few out-of-town players, guys are working, guys have families; it’s harder than the junior leagues to get guys out.” Coach Millnthrop believes absent players made a huge impact on the outcome of Saturday’s game.

The Barons opened up scoring at 9:44 in the first from Matt Herder, then continued the momentuem into the second with two more goals, the first from Kyle Henderson and the second from Ryan Kallis, to make it a 3-0 game.  “We outshot them, but they got a few more lucky bounces,” says the coach. The Sr Pontiacs got their sole goal at 9:44 of the second from Denis Cadrin with the assist from Craig Cuthbert and Logan Isley. The Barons’ Scott Hanson close the period, and the game 4-1 with a goal at the 6:04 mark of the second.

“We got into some penalty troubles,” Coach Millnthrop says the goal for this upcoming weekend will be to clean up their game and stay out of the penalty box. “Continue to get as many shots on net, as we are,” the Sr Pontiacs had 41 shots on net against the Barons on Saturday, “as long as we keep putting shots on net, things will start going in for us.”

The club is on the road for all of December, starting with a road trip to Rocky Mountain House, “we’ve got an overnight trip to Rocky coming up, that should be a little bit of fun for the boys and hopefully we’ll play some good hockey!”
