CF-18 Crash Outside Cold Lake
Update
Captain Thomas McQueen has been identified as the pilot of the CF-18 that crashed on November 28th. CFB 4-Wing Commander Colonel Paul Doyle announced that McQueen lost his life in the crash.
The investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.
Background
A Canadian fighter jet has crashed in the Cold Lake. It has been confirmed that the pilot of the aircraft has died as a result of the crash. It’s not clear yet why the CF-18 went down.
A flight safety investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the accident, military spokesperson has confirmed. Emergency crews are on site, securing the scene.
The name of the pilot will not be released at this time to allow for next of kin notification.

The crash has been confirmed in a statement released by Capt. Mat Stong of 4-Wing Cold Lake, 4 Wing emergency services, including 417 Combat Support Squadron, are currently en route to secure the area of the crash.”
“Our primary concern at this time is the status and safety of the aircraft’s occupant and any impact to the immediate area. It is far too early in the situation to determine the cause of this incident. As more details become available, they will be provided.”
A spokesman for the Canadian Armed Forces said the crash happened Monday morning inside the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range in Saskatchewan.
